Democrats Take A Beating/Prez Has To Stay Strong

ARTICLE FROM yahoonews.com (Full story click here)

Well we all know that the Democrats got beat pretty bad in the elections on Nov 2nd. The right pick up plenty of seats in the House and Senate. That is a fact. But I am here to say President Obama you have to stay strong.

The President had a press conference today (Nov 3rd) and he looked sad and defeated. As question after question was fired his way about the Democrats taking a beating. But the Prez hung in there the best he could.

In my strong opinion, I saw the handwriting on the wall readers. You had the Tea Party riding all over the country blasting the President and his policies and also a ENTIRE network in Fox News lowering the boom on President Obama on EVERY PROGRAM. Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, Greta, and on and on on Fox News. It is the network of the Republican Party and also the Tea Party.

Here is another point I want to make. Where is the right when people are in jail for wanting to kill the President? Where is their voices? Where is their voices when people try to shout down the President while he speaking? Where is the right speaking up on some of the insensitive actions of the  Tea Party members against our President? The right is silent.

The tea party does not have to pay for ads. The have a whole network on their side. That’s real talk folks. Fox News is on their side!!!

Also it is sad that their is zero African Americans on TV as anchors on night-time cable TV news in the U.S. None on MSNBC, none on Fox News, none on CNN. How come Don Lemon on CNN cannot be on prime time at night on TV during the weekday instead of being on only on the weekend? Why not Tony Harris on CNN at night? I will write more on this issue soon.

Why not Roland Martin at night time? This is just not fair folks.

So it is time for President Obama to roll up his sleeves and get to real big time work because the right is out to get him. Fox News is out to get him too. He has to be ready to take the heat. Even certain folks on CNN and MSNBC are turning on President Obama. But one thing is for sure, people like myself and millions others have the President’s back!!!

STAY STRONG PREZ!!!!    Gordon Curvey

Total Lack Of Diversity On Sports Radio Stations In Seattle

This is Part 2 of my series of stories regarding local sports radio stations in Seattle, Washington. Two stations who cover sports in Seattle, have a grand total of ZERO African Americans on the air on a regular basis. The stations are sports radio KJR and 710 ESPN.

KJR has been on the air for more than 19 years and 710 ESPN has been on the air for about two years in the Seattle/Tacoma radio market. Again, no African Americans have been on the air with his or hers own program during the time these stations have been on the air. This is wrong readers.

When African Americans and people of color dominate the three major sports (football, basketball and baseball) it is wrong in my strong opinion to have a completely all white staffs on the two local sports stations. I am TIRED of hearing white guys interviewing African Americans and people of color on the air who they cannot relate to what so ever!!!

ONLY my friend Rick Dupree has been on the air. But he was only a semi-regular. He was fired and RE-HIRED again only to leave KJR because he saw no hope for himself to have his own regular program. So he left.

The current on air staff on KJR is Mitch Levy, Dave “Softy” Mahler, Ian Furness and Elise Woodward with Dick Fain on the weekend. Recently a former host on KJR, Jeff Aaron was brought back to have his own program on the weekends.

Also recently, “Hot Shot” Scott was hired to be on the air on KJR with the “The Gasman” during the weekdays to replace the departed “The Groz”. Scott was a DJ on sister station KUBE93.

On 710 ESPN it is Mike Salk, Brock Huard, “The Groz” Dave Grosby and Kevin Calabro and Jim Moore on the air. All the hosts on 710 ESPN and KJR are white. But to make matters worse, as far as I know, their are no African Americans or people of color in sales, as producers and for sure in management. This is wrong.

Seattle is a city known for it’s diversity. But in sports radio here in Seattle, diversity is a no show. The question is why? Well the answer is called the “ole boy network” in radio,TV and radio plus newspapers where whites help other whites to obtain employment while African Americans and people of color are left on the sidelines.

As I said earlier, “Hot Shot” Scott and Jeff Aaron was recently hired on KJR. Both of whom had ties to KJR already with Scott as a dj on sister station KUBE93 and Aaron as a former employee with KJR. For sure, the “ole boy network” is the reason both of them were hired.

On 710 ESPN, Brock Huard had ZERO radio experience but was hired. Jim Moore is a newspaper man who worked for the P.I. which is no longer around. Mike Salk came from Boston. Kevin Calabro and “The Groz” Grosby I have no problem with. And I have no problem with Dick Fain and Elise Woodward on KJR. Others, I have a problem with.

Recently I sent KJR host Dave Malher a text after a recent Husky football game in which QB Jake Locker did not have a good game. Mahler had given me his number months earlier.

Mahler sent me a return text calling me a “asshole” and “a nut job psycho” “I am as crazy as I am stupid” other very negative names. One text Mahler sent had to be modified by my phone company and removed!! It was wrong for Mahler to call me these derogatory names.

What is going on in sports radio here in Seattle is a total lack of inclusion of African Americans and people of color on a regular basis on ESPN 710 and KJR. The problem is management at the two stations seem not to care about this problem.

The management at KJR flat out LIED to African American leadership about hiring and diversity. FLAT OUT LIED. It is time for a chance at KJR and 710 ESPN. The hosts don’t care, the producers don’t care, and for sure management does not care. But one thing for sure………I care!!!!!

Racism is alive and well because all you have to do is look at 710 ESPN and sportsradio KJR here in Seattle. Dave Mahler’s texts to me shows for sure that there is work to be done.

Local newspaper, The Seattle Times has a sports editor who refuses to allow his writers to do a story on what I am writing about here. Why? Because he has writers at the Times like Jerry Brewer (who is African American) and Steve Kelly that are “in bed” with KJR. They are on the air as guests on the station. And Jim Moore who writes for the Seattle PI website, also refuses to write about this because he is on the air on 710 ESPN.This is Part 2 of my series of stories regarding local sports radio stations in Seattle, Washington. Actress Regina King Says Emmy Awards Unfair To African Americans

ARTICLE FROM huffingtonpost.com (Full story click here)

As I sat and watched the red carpet activities for the Emmy Awards that aired recently, I said to myself, where are people of color? Are they in attendance? Are they there? If so, they are not being interviewed.

Something was wrong. Of course the same ole same ole’s were interviewed. Seal and his wife, and a few more but that was it. It was like African Americans and people of color do not act on television.

Readers I do not like to discuss color a lot here on my website, but today I was on the internet and saw beautiful actress Regina King’s article in the Huffington Post regarding the lack of African Americans and people of color nominated for Emmys this year.

In the last few years, only 53 non-whites have been nominated out of 1,000 nominations for a Emmy in the comedy and drama categories. Something is very very wrong.

Regina is also bothered by actress Alaina Reed not being included in this years memoriam for folks who have passed. Reed was a cast member on the legendary Sesame Street for 12 years!! How could she be left out readers? It is beyond me.

I watched the Emmys and was very very disappointed that African Americans and people of color were not nominated for awards and were not interviewed on the red carpet on E and on TV Guide coverage.

The questions is……..why?   This is “One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

Lack Of Diversity On Sports Radio In Seattle/Part 1

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

As I get ready to have a serious operation this week I have some thoughts I want to share regarding the sports radio situation here in Seattle, Washington (U.S.)

The two stations are 710 ESPN and KJR. 710 ESPN has been on the air for a year or so and KJR for 19 years in the Seattle/Tacoma area. For 19 years KJR has NEVER had a African American with his or hers own regular program. Currently their total workforce has a grand total of ZERO African Americans the last time I checked. That includes producers, over the air, sales and management.

I will talk about 710 ESPN in Part 2 of this story but I want to discuss KJR in Part 1. KJR constantly blasts African Americans and people of color in a negative way with out the other point of view from a African American or person of color. THIS IS UNFAIR!

Words like “THUG” is used by the all white staff of KJR against African Americans and people of color ONLY. The word “THUG” is a code word for the “N” word. It is used by callers and hosts. This word is NEVER used against whites in the sports world. NEVER.

KJR management just hired two more whites to be on the air, Jeff Aaron and Hot Shot Scott. Scott worked at sister station KUBE93 and Aaron used to a sports jock on KJR. Was fired or laid off and now he is back.

It is like the management of KJR do not care about diversity over the air. Or having a African American with his or hers own program. Stephen A. Smith (a African American) is on KJR at 3am but it is not a local show. It is a Fox national program.

A few years ago, their was a meeting held with African American community leaders and KJR management in which PROMISES WERE MADE BY KJR MANAGEMENT. Promises that included working on diversity in hiring and over the air. Promises where made to myself and other community folks like former Seattle NAACP chairman Carl Mack.

But then Mack left town and KJR backed off the promises that was made. In other words, KJR management LIED TO ME AND CARL MACK AND OTHERS. This is wrong. KJR management has shown with the hiring of Scott and Aaron that they DO NOT care about having a African American over the air on KJR. Period.

KJR is like a frat club or Elk’s Club in Vermont or South Dakota. No blacks in sight. They are friends and buddies instead of workmates. They call and text each other after work etc. Even the bumper music is all white most of the time. Bumper music is a term for the music played in the background after a commercial etc. No T.I. or Drake or Jay Z or Kanye West or Lil Wayne or Rihanna or classic soul like Stevie Wonder or The Isley Bros etc. Instead it is Aerosmith or ZZ Top and The Little River Band etc or even on Mitch Levy’s show, Frank Sinatra etc.

Issues of race comes up all the time on KJR and the all white staff CANNOT RELATE. They do not have a clue on the topic. Also it hurts me hearing the KJR jocks constantly interviewing African Americans THEY CANNOT RELATE TO what so ever. These cats are from the inner city or deep south etc. Hearing Mitch Levy and Dave Mahler and Ian Furness and now Aaron interviewing these inner city cats turns my stomach!!

The only jocks I like on KJR is Dick Fain and Elise Woodward. Yes they are white, but Woodward played basketball and has dealt with African Americans and people of color and Fain coaches at Mt. Rainier High School and deals with inner city cats all the time.

This is Part 1 of “Lack Of Diversity On Sports Radio” Part 2 I will deal with local sports writers who are “in bed” with sports radio, Mitch Levy’s “Bigger Dance” contest and discuss 710 ESPN and more.

Please watch “Music Inner City TV” Ustream programs live and on-demand. We will feature music videos and discuss issues in entertainment, urban sports and soon we will have contests to give away cd’s etc.

I Have a Problem With Programs On TBS

Below pic and story from tbs.com

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

As a African American I AM TIRED OF TBS AIRING THESE SITCOMS WITH A AFRICAN AMERICAN CAST IN A COMEDY.

TBS already airs  “Amos and Andy” look-a-like programs produced by Tyler Perry and now here comes “Are We There Yet” produced by former guest on Seattle’s Music Inner City TV, Ice Cube.

Why is it we are doing these comedies with African Americans acting like clowns and buffoons?

What about a program or series with a African American cast IN A WEEKLY DRAMA!!! What about that readers? I will not watch one more minute of “Meet The Browns” and the other Perry produced shows.

It is flat out embarrasing to see these clowns so called acting like “colored folks” of “darkies” in the 1920’s Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Steppin Fetchin type movies/programs.

Ice Cube has been on my show three times as a legendary rapper. I wish my brotha can produce a drama on TBS, instead of a ANOTHER comedy with a all African American cast. IT IS BADLY NEEDED IN MY STRONG OPINION!!!

Watch our USTREAM TV shows featuring past “M.I.C-TV” programs. Just click on the links above.

And listen to “Music Inner City Radio” podcasts of our 1150 KKNW programs. Just click the link above.

Ochochinco Slams ESPN Host Colin Cowherd On Twitter

ARTICLE FROM huffingtonpost.com (Full story click here)

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

I am happy as hell that NFL player Chad Ochocinco has fired back at ESPN Radio host Colin Cowherd about Colin’s constant blasting of him on his radio show.

Cowherd seems to think he is a Mr. Know It All when it comes to sports and even life. He comes off as a tremendously arrogant fella who speaks out on folks at will on his program and seems to think guys like Chad will not retaliate. Chad has.

People don’t understand Ochocinco. He is a young fella having fun. He likes to use the technology available like computers etc. He uses Ustream.tv and does his Ustream show when he is on the road via his iphone etc.

He is having fun. I rather have Chad around to read about than baseball players who have personalities of a rock outside on the street. That is way you don’t see any baseball players besides Derek Jeter doing commercials on TV. But you see Chad, Barkley, D-Wade, Dwight Howard, Manning and others with personalities.

Colin does not say you don’t read about Chad doing drugs, clubbing at a nightclub at 2am, beating up his wife atc. He is at home on the computer etc having fun. Now during the off-season he is going to be in “Dancing With The Stars”

I am tired of clowns like Cowherd and even this other motor mouth “JT-The Brick” on Fox Sports Radio who also likes to blast Ochocinco at will in negative ways. Calling him negative names over the air. J.T. and Colin are two peas on a pod. Two motor mouth so called talk show hosts who like to talk about African Americans in negative ways all the time over the air.

J.T. was just on the air giving his opinion as to why African Americans kids are not playing baseball. He does not know what the hell he is talking about unless you walk in our shoes!!!

This just shows once again, about sports radio. Their is a MAJOR PROBLEM in AM sports radio in Seattle and the U.S. The problem is a lack of African Americans in sports radio. It is dominated by white men who know NOTHING about the African American culture or lifestyle. Nothing.

In Seattle, sports radio KJR and 710ESPN have a grand total of ZERO African Americans with his or hers own program. THIS IS A PROBLEM WHEN AFRICAN AMERICANS DOMINATE THE MAJOR SPORTS IN THE U.S.

Thank god for Stephen A. Smith and Mike Wilborn and the “Two Live Stews” and a few others in sports radio. We need more. At KJR and 710ESPN here in Seattle their is no African Americans as producers, in sales, in management and of course over the air.

This is why I have started “Sports Inner City Online”. A site that has the African American point of view when it comes to sports.

“Sports Inner City Online” is one of only a few urban sports websites on the Internet. PLEASE spread the word about our site. Please send us a e-mail at gcurvey@yahoo.com and tell us how we can improve the site. It is at www.sportsinnercity.com
